We will be using MaestroConference telephone-based technology for the SaTC Cyber Cafe because of its ease of use and accessibility.
There’s nothing to download and no complicated learning curve; MaestroConference works exactly like a conference call (well, ok, a pretty super-charged conference call). When you register, you will be given a call-in number and individualized PIN# that you will use to dial in to the Cyber Café. You’ll use the same numbers for both sessions (there will be an hour break between the two).
You will get better audio quality using a landline, rather than a cell phone or VOIP option, and you should have a headset that leaves your hands free.
You’ll receive a reminder email about 8 hours before the event starts – it will be sent to the email address you used to register (look in your junk mail folder if it has not shown up). It will have your call-in details and a link to a personalized “participant dashboard”, where you can send messages to the Café hosts (only the hosts will see your messages, not the other participants), follow polls, or see messages from the hosts to the whole Cyber Café. If you cannot find it, you can just put http://maestroconference.com/dashboard into your browser and fill in your call-in and PIN numbers manually.
This Cyber Café will be very interactive, so you may want to get a pencil and paper to note down people or ideas that are of interest to you. We encourage you to follow up with each other and potentially collaborate on research proposals.
IF YOU NEED HELP
If you have any trouble with the technology, there will be tech support people online to help you – just press “5” on your telephone keypad, and someone will be with you as soon as they can. Or, you may prefer to use your participant dashboard to communicate any issues you may be having.
If you drop off the call at any time, just dial back in using your same call-in and PIN numbers. If you have any trouble getting on to the call in the first place, try again slowly, and if you are still experiencing difficulty, contact MaestroConference support. They are very responsive.
If you have any questions, please post them via the comments below, and we will do our best to respond to them.
